‘Among the Trees - Autumn in Inks’ with Ellie Green - Saturday 10th October 2026
We are delighted to welcome Ellie Green back to the Sculpture Garden for autumn 2026.
Among the Trees — Autumn in Inks: A mixed-media creative workshop inspired by the beauty, textures and energy of the autumn woodland at the Sculpture Garden.
We'll begin with a mindful, guided walk among the trees, slowing down and tuning into the changing season — noticing shapes, textures, sounds, light and the small details that might otherwise go unseen. Depending on the weather, we'll either sketch directly outdoors or bring our observations back into the covered teaching space to develop from photographs and gathered inspiration.
From these initial sketches, we'll move into a series of playful inky experiments, exploring washes, grounds, brushwork and dip pens. We'll also discover the fascinating process of making oak gall ink, connecting the materials we use back to the trees themselves.
After a pause for tea, we'll return to our observations and begin developing more considered ink studies, working in layers and across multiple pieces. Along the way we'll explore how charcoal, graphite, oil pastel and other mixed-media elements can be brought back into the work, creating depth, texture and unexpected marks.
An afternoon to slow down, wander, gather and create — tuning into the energy, textures, colours and changing palette of the woodland in autumn
All materials are included in this workshop.

The afternoon will be broken into two workshops, with a break for tea, locally roasted coffee and scrumptious homemade cakes midway through (vegan option available).
Timing: 1.30 pm to 5pm
Guests are welcome to stay until 6pm to explore the Sculpture Garden further - perhaps employing some of the lessons gleaned earlier in the day, or just taking time to relax and unwind in the serene setting. Alternatively, guests are welcome to arrive from 1pm -please let us know in advance so that we are in reception to greet you (otherwise we may be elsewhere with final preparations for the afternoon).
As this is taking place on a Saturday afternoon, there will be other visitors in the grounds during this time.
Please note: the Sculpture Garden is a natural woodland setting, with uneven ground in places. As this is an outdoor workshop, please come prepared for the weather (we will move under cover if it is wet - but warm clothing is recommended)
BOOKINGS CLOSE - Monday 5th October 2026 at 5pm.
Upon booking completion, you will receive an automatic email confirmation. If you do not receive this, please contact us - as we will need to send you final details a few days prior to the workshop.
