Botanical Clay with Emily Chivers - Saturday 26th September 2026

Botanical Clay with Emily Chivers - Saturday 26th September 2026
We are excited to announce a brand new collaboration for Autumn 2026 with potter and basket weaver Emily Chivers, celebrating the changing of the seasons.
Join us for a late September afternoon in the heart of the Sculpture Garden for a relaxing workshop of botanical printing in clay. The soft, tactile quality of clay is the perfect material for capturing the beauty of nature as we move from summer to autumn.
Starting with a short walk to gather fallen natural materials from the garden itself, we will return to our alfresco studio-setting to begin our creative journey. Emily will guide you through simple techniques; exploring surface pattern and colour to produce a set of tiles or a dish.
Your work will be taken away to be glazed and fired, and will be ready to collect approx 4-5* weeks after the workshop from The Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden. If you are coming further afield, we can happily arrange to ship your finished piece to you (not included in the ticket price).
We will be collecting natural materials from the surrounding area to create textures, but please feel free to bring anything along from your own garden to experiment with.
Botanical Clay with Emily Chivers
Saturday 26th September 2026
Start: 2.00pm
Finish: 5.00pm
All materials will be provided.
The afternoon will be broken into two elements, with a break for tea, French-press coffee and scrumptious homemade cakes partway through (vegan option available, please select dietary requirements at check-out).
Please note: the Sculpture Garden is a natural woodland setting, with uneven ground in places.
Come prepared for the Great British weather! Suitable footwear is a must , as we will be taking a guided walk through some of the grounds. The whole workshop will take place outside, or semi-outside - so please dress appropriately. Should the weather be particularly inhospitable the whole workshop will take place within the gallery, with plenty of forged material to inspire.
Please note, if you do not receive an automatic booking confirmation please drop us an email as we’ll need to contact you 5 days prior to the event with the final details.
*The last open day of the season is Sunday 25th October, but the team are still on site after this date.
