“I look to the organic for form, colour and texture, exploring the characteristics of plants forms, of the earth, of the universe.”
Peter M. Clarke has showcased his imaginative and organic sculptures in numerous indoor and outdoor exhibitions across the UK since his graduation from Camberwell College of Arts, London, in 1993.
Clarke’s copper and steel sculptures have been acquired for collections in the UK, Europe, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, reflecting the widespread appreciation for his otherworldly depictions of flora. These pieces seamlessly integrate into garden environments, as highlighted by features in BBC Gardener’s World, The Financial Times, and The Sunday Expresscolour supplements.
For over two decades, Peter Clarke has exhibited with The Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden, where his fantastical organic forms harmonise effortlessly with the garden’s dramatic landscape. Working primarily in copper, Clarke skilfully harnesses the material's unique qualities to create striking sculptures, often concealing hidden details for the observant viewer. By allowing the copper to weather naturally, occasionally with some artistic intervention, his works develop rich verdigris hues. Combined with the robust, natural oak used in their presentation, these pieces exude a timeless aesthetic that enhances their appeal.
