Growing up on a working farm on rural Dartmoor has been the backbone behind Hamish’s magnetism towards stone and its permanence within the landscape. As a sculptor and stonemason living and working there, the practise of carving limestone, marble and granite is an important reflective process for him. Having studied Fine art, music and geology, with a deep-rooted curiosity in natural wonders, his work continues evolving to incorporate fragile geometry, and the diversity of natural forms.

More recent work has focused on testing the limits of the stone itself, finding a balance between looping forms and curves, a common theme in Hamish’s work. Light plays a part in highlighting the delicacy and strength of the stone, converging vibrant abstract profiles, with simple shapes and textures.

Since 2022, working full-time as a sculptor in his studio on Dartmoor, Hamish’s work has been selected for exhibition’s around the UK alongside the South West Sculptors.
