As a Glass Artist Stephen Beardsell's interests lay in sculpture. His aim is to create glass and mixed media sculptures that sit comfortably in a natural environment. Beardsell's influences mainly arrive from observations of the natural environment, seeds and plants, with a special interest in how they grow and evolve and exist in the environment.

Recently Beardsell has been using sand casting to manipulate sculpture. This challenging technique is traditionally used to cast metal. Molten glass is ladled into a pre-formed mould of damp sand. Inclusions are then added such as glass silver birch trees and glass poppies. The glass is then cooled in a kiln on a pre-determined cooling cycle which can take up to three weeks to reach room temperature.
