Grow is a new sound installation by Robert Jarvis at the Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden.
Inspired by The Oriental Pond, Jarvis has created music based on patterns derived from the surrounding plants' DNA sequences contrasted with the processes that determine their growth and ageing.
Listen:
Japanese Maple Tree (6:17)
Umbrella Bamboo (6:58)
Silverbell Tree (8:01)
Giant Rhubarb (7:35)
His sound installation in this secluded part of the garden delights the imagination, as rapid yet gentle musical patterns are mingled with melodies that fade in, tease the ears, dance around the pond and fade out again, returning the visitor to the garden's quiet landscape.
The work is the result of an eight-month residency in association with the Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden where Robert has been investigating themes connected with its plants. It has been funded by the Arts Council England South East, the Performing Right Society Foundation and Mole Valley District Council.
