Mayer believes that a sculpture should speak for itself and should not need verbal description. A title may give a hint to the viewer of what was in the sculptor's mind. Most of her sculptures have been cast in bronze. However the original works were made from materials found in the sculptor's studio or the countryside.

For Charlotte Mayer the making of sculpture is an adventurous business. The original idea comes intuitively. Thereafter the process is long, often arduous and sometimes tedious. It is a long, slow method of work which is needed to bring the work to maturity and give it a final form.
